The striking Ring-necked Pheasant is a native bird of Asia, but was introduced to New Zealand in the mid 1800’s, and around the world as a game-bird.
Pheasants have become widespread, with ‘Fish & Game’ managing bird populations in New Zealand to ensure the future of the species.
They’re commonly found in areas of open grass and farmland, but hide in shrubs or take off in near vertical flight if disturbed. The male is larger and more brightly coloured, with copper plumage, white collar and distinctive facial details.
This image features a deep teal blue background with vivid copper features on the Pheasant.
